Ghost of Tantallon Castle

The dramatic ruins of Tantallon Castle are set atop the cliffs overlooking the Firth of Forth near North Berwick in Scotland. Tantallon Castle has been the target of numerous sieges and was home to the infamous Red Douglas family, the Earls of Angus.

The castle eventually fell into ruin after being bombarded for 12 days by General Monck on behalf of Oliver Cromwell in retribution for the Moss-troopers based at the castle who disrupted Cromwell's communication lines in 1651.

No one has occupied the castle since, unless you count the stories that the castle is haunted.

Young people who once visited the castle after hours were scared away by a figure walking along the battlements.

In 2008, some visitors took a picture inside the gatehouse and later noticed a figure standing in the doorway above them, wearing a ruff and clothing from centuries past.

To this day, the picture is considered real and not digitally altered. No one was dressed in costume at the castle, and the mystery remains. Back in 1977, a similar figure was captured in the background of a picture from the exact location when a visitor named Grace Lamb snapped a photo of her husband and children during a trip to Tantallon Castle.
